The last two weeks we have been going to a local farm to pick our own fruits and veggies for our family's weekly consumption. It is important to us that the kids know where our food comes from and it is fun for the kids as well. Unfortunately, we don't have the room right now, but in the future we would like to set up a fruit/veggie garden and get a chicken coop set up for fresh eggs. Here is a sampling of what we made with the fruits/veggies we picked.
The blueberries were amazingly plump and sweet. They were ripe and ready to go, making it very toddler friendly.
Some strawberries, raspberries, English peas and snap peas.
We made a mushroom/peas stir fry with strip steak and rice.
Some of the strawberries went into making a chocolate cake with whipped cream frosting.
The blueberries went into making blueberry muffins with a crumble topping. Kind of scary, but we went through a dozen muffins in one day.
